Director Hany Abu-Assad’s The Mountain Between Us is
a harrowing adventure/love story with excellent performances by Idris Elba and
Kate Winslet.
When flights from Idaho to Colorado are cancelled due to
an impending snow storm, Alex (Winslet), a woman about to become a bride the
next day and Ben (Elba), a doctor needing to perform an operation the next day,
hire a prop plane pilot (Beau Bridges) to fly them to Denver.
Unfortunately, the pilot has a stroke mid-flight and the
plane crashes in the Rocky Mountains, leaving the injured Alex and Ben stranded
on a snow-covered peak.
Since no one knew of the unscheduled/uncharted flight,
the story follows a month-long struggle of the couple’s attempt to survive.
The only problem with this film is that it takes too long
to resolve their adventure and find an ending.
I give The Mountain Between Us a 3.6 out of
5.
