Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Overall, Star Wars fans have a lot to enjoy in Writer/Director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
There are some wonderful new creatures characters from past episodes show up, the Droids perform heroically and the bad guys Snoke (Andy Serkis) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) are really evil.

On the downside, however, are Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) drab psychological issues, the sometimes wooden direction (Johnson) and editing (Bob Ducsay), plus a surprisingly mediocre score by John Williams.  Also, though I saw the film in one of New York’s best theaters, either the projection system was off (doubtful) or the pedestrian usage of 3D does not warrant the extra expense of seeing the film in that format.

The film is at its best when it focuses on Rey (Daisy Rigley), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran).  Also, a new character, DJ (Benicio Del Toro) adds a lot of fun.

And, if you’re an action fan, you won’t be disappointed in the battles.

I give Star Wars: The Last Jedi a 4.1 out of 5.
