The Monk

Based on a 1796 novel, Director Dominik Moll’s French-Spanish thriller The Monk stars the excellent Vincent Cassel (Black Swan, Ocean’s 13) as a Spanish monk in the Middle Ages.

Beautifully photographed by Patrick Blossier, with powerful music by Alberto Inglesias, this is a haunting story about a religious zealot, who suffers his comeuppance by the devil.

It is a worthwhile view that will, unfortunately, not have much of a showing other than one or two theaters in New York and L.A.

 I give it a 3+ out of 5.
