The dilemma for Director Tim Burton’s Dumbo is that Screenwriter
Ehren Kruger’s script is, actually, a “grown-up” story in what’s supposed to be
a kid’s movie.
I, thoroughly, enjoyed the story, the production values, the
animatics, the performances of Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell, Danny
DeVito and the kids, Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins. However, except for the
parts where Dumbo flies around, the kids under 7 were fidgety and more
talkative than in other animated movies I’ve, lately, seen.
So, if you’re at all nostalgic, you might want to leave the
kids at home and see a new and more adult version of this old classic. I think you’ll enjoy it, too.
I give Dumbo a 4.3 out of 5.
