I began to worry, when Co-Directors
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel started out with flat
dialogue and weak jokes.
But, when the story literally
got down to Earth, it built into a strong action picture with an interesting
story that, ultimately, culminated with a more than satisfactory bang, not to
mention a fine setup for the next adventure. (Stay for the credits.)
Bree Larson acquits herself
as a slick action hero, Jude Law is powerful as her initial commander and
Samuel L. Jackson adds requisite humor.
Avenger fans will enjoy Captain
Marvel and the pre-film nod to Stan Lee which gained a round of
applause by the audience.
I give Captain Marvel a 4.2 out
of 5.
