Director David Fincher’s Gone
Girl is a class act on all levels.
It all starts with the
fact Writer Gillian Flynn has done a masterful job in transforming her novel
into a screenplay and Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike have, successfully, brought
her main characters to life. Pike, especially,
deserves the highest accolades for her portrayal of a neglected wife, who has
gone missing. (If you haven’t read the
book, I won’t say more about the plot.)
The entire supporting cast,
notably Carrie Coon, KimDickens and Neil Patrick Harris, performs, admirably,
and the action is superbly captured by Cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth.
There’s been a lot of
hand-wringing in Hollywood about the poor box office results this year. The reason is that the big studios haven’t
produced enough solid stories like Gone Girl.
You'll enjoy this one.
I give Gone Girl
a 4+ out of 5.
