It seems tradition that every mid-winter brings forth a
horror film...some good and some bad.
This year, Co-Writers/Directors Peter and Michael Spierig, with the help
of Helen Mirren, have delivered an interesting and well-made supernatural
thriller with Winchester.
Based on a true story of the widow and heir to the
Winchester Fire Arms Company, who is haunted by the deaths her product has
wrought, a therapist (Jason Clarke) is hired by the Winchester board to go to
the widow’s incredible mansion in San Jose, hopefully, to diagnose her as
crazy, so they can remove her from the company.
The scientific mind of the therapist is shaken by what he
discovers.
The film is very good except for the cliché last
shot. I give Winchester a 3.8 out of
5.
