Shiva Baby

I thought Writer/Director Emma Seligman’s Shiva Baby was going to be a comedy, but it turned out to be a horror film, as least for Danielle (Rachel Sennott), who is having an affair with one of her college teachers (Danny Deferrari) before going to a Jewish Shiva where she later finds him as one of the guests along with his previously-unknown-to-her wife (Dianna Agron) and their new baby.  And, that’s only one of the many issues she faces!

The only problem with this film is that it’s characters are all too real and one might feel embarrassed at letting loose with laughs for fear of being characterized as a religious bigot by other members of the audience.

I give Shiva Baby a 4.2 out of 5 and look forward to more of Ms. Seligman’s work.
