Director Steven Spielberg’s The BFG is a very sweet
movie, once you get beyond the story about a big man, who steals dreams and kidnaps
a little girl, dressed only in her nightgown, and holds her captive in a land
of giants.
I must admit, that made me feel a little squeamish until
it turned out this guy was the nice nerd among cruel giants, who made his 24
foot height dwarfish in comparison. And,
they ate the children they kidnapped!
What is truly impressive is the animation technique and
the acting ability of Mark Rylance, who plays BFG. Ruby Barnhill, who plays Sophie, the little
girl, is excellent, as well.
The film becomes truly wonderful once the scene turns to
Buckingham Palace with Penelope Wilton playing the Queen. And, of course, Spielberg knows how to end a
film in a most endearing way.
I give The BFG a 4.1 out of 5.
