Director Rupert Sanders’ Ghost in the Shell is an
action-packed and thought-provoking sci-fi film about the first successful transplant
of a human brain into a robotic body (Scarlett Johansson).
Of course, a magnate (Peter Ferdinando) uses her as a
weapon.
The script by Jamie Moss, William Wheeler and Ehren
Kruger is, supposedly, a change from the Shirow Masamune’s comic book, but not
being familiar with that work, I enjoyed the film for what it is.
The feel of the film as created by Production Designer
Jan Roelfs is much like that of Blade Runner…not the kind of world I’d
want to live in nor the kind of transformation I’d want for humankind. Yet, the film provokes a lot of questions we
all need to answer for ourselves.
If you like sci-fi and action, you should enjoy Ghost
in the Shell. I give it a 3.9
out of 5.
