The theater in which I saw Director Andy Muschietti’s It was
not selling tickets to children. Now, if
they, also, refused to sell them to adults, all would be well.
This tale taken from a Stephen King story was not scary,
but it was gross and was, often, over the top with its ghoulishness perpetrated
on children.
Every fantasy or horror story needs to maintain a certain
logic no matter how different that may be from the real world. But, here, the logic falls into chaos and
things become so muddled and unreal to the tale that I spent the last fifteen
minutes shaking my head in disbelief at how stupid it had become and, besides
yearning for the movie to be over, started to side with the vicious clown that
was terrorizing the children.
If it weren’t for some excellent young actors, especially
Sophia Lillis and Jeremy Ray Taylor, as well as Bill Skarsgärd as the Clown,
this would have been a complete waste.
I give It a 2.6 out of 5.
