Director Bryan Singer’s Bohemian Rhapsody is most
powerful, when the music is playing and the band Queen is performing.
Rami Malek gives a brilliant performance as lead singer
Freddie Mercury and Casting Director Susie Figgis has done an outstanding job
in finding actors (Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello), who look like and have
the feel of the band members they are portraying.
If you like Queen’s music (and who doesn’t?), you’ll
enjoy the stories behind the songs and the development of the band.
You may, then, forgive the fact Writer Anthony McCarten’s
script lacks sufficient drama in the film’s first half, knowing the second half
delivers the necessary passion to this poignant tale.
I give Bohemian Rhapsody a 3.8 out of 5.
