What began as Co-Producer/Directors Jimmy Chin and
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi’s documentary on mountain climber Alex Honnold, transformed
into an amazing adventure, when Alex decided he wanted to become the first
human to climb the shear 3200 foot wall
of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, alone and without ropes.
Free Solo follows Honnold’s
preparation and attempt at this extraordinary feat. Seeing it on any screen gives one the feeling
of his harrowing journey, but seeing it in IMAX as I had the good fortune to
do, gave the experience of climbing with Alex.
The best part was the day he just knew he had to go for
it and set out alone at the break of dawn, completely focused and completely
sure.
See it and learn what’s possible to achieve. I give Free Solo a 4.2 out of 5.
