Faces/Places (Visages/Villages)

Legendary French film director Agnes Varda has partnered with flyposting (poster pasting) artist JR (Jean René) to co-create an absolutely wonderful documentary film entitled Faces/Places (Visages/Villages).
Literally, within a few days of meeting each other, the two decided to create an improvisational work to celebrate the common French citizen.

To do that, they traveled together throughout France in a van outfitted to be a Polaroid-like film lab that could, almost instantaneously, output giant prints of the photographs taken.

Their team would, then, paste the photos on buildings, sometimes more than six-stories in height.  The results are breathtaking!

Though billed as a documentary, the film is more a charming docu-drama as the tiny 89-year-old woman and 34-year-old man interact with each other and their subjects in the most uplifting way.

This film is a truly joyous experience.  I give Faces/Places (Visages/Villages) a 4.8 out of 5.
