Director John M. Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians is one
of those breakthrough films that will, hopefully, bring Asian actors/stories
into the mainstream as Cotton Comes to Harlem did for
African Americans nearly 50 years ago.
The film is a delightful soup opera that stands out and
commands attention because of its glitz and glamour.
Nick Young (Henry Golding) takes Rachel (Constance Wu), his
girlfriend of one year, to Singapore to meet his family. What Rachel doesn’t know, however, is that
the Young family is one of the richest in Asia.
Can the couple survive family dictates? That’s the question. And, you’ll have a lot of fun watching the
exploration for the answer.
Ken Jeong and Awkwafina provide loads of humor and Gemma
Chan provides loads of beauty.
I give Crazy Rich Asians a 4 out of 5.
