Happy Death Day 2U

Writer/Director Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day 2U is a fun sequel to 2017’s Happy Death Day. 

Though the logic of Landon’s script, often, doesn’t follow its own logic, this is the kind of film that you just have to sit back and go with.  Thanks to lead actress Jessica Rothe and her backup team Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin, it’s an easy task.

Ultimately, there’s a sweetness to the story that adds some unexpected depth to the romp.

I give Happy Death Day 2U a 3.5 out of 5.

What Men Want

Director Adam Shankman’s What Men Want is an often hilarious comedy thanks to the talented Taraji P. Henson, who plays Ali Davis, the only woman agent in a major Sports Agency.

Unable to move up in the agency due to rampant sexism, Ali suffers a fall, after which she is able to hear the thoughts of men. 

This sets off the fun and what, at first, seemed a rip-off of Nancy Meyers’ turn-of-the-century What Women Want gets better and better with its own unique turns thanks to the writing team of Tina Gordon, Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory.

What Men Want is enjoyable adult fare.  I give it a 4 out of 5.

Cold Pursuit

 Director Hans Petter Moland’s Cold Pursuit is a revenge thriller with a macabre sense of humor.

Liam Neeson plays Nels Coxman, the operator of a giant snow plow at the Kehoe, Colorado ski town. When his son is killed by a local drug cartel, Nels decides to take down the entire organization, but soon finds himself in the middle of a feud between rival cartels, one of which is run by Native Americans.

Thanks to Writer Frank Baldwin’s wry script and the Colorado location, this thriller is well above average for fans of Death Wish-type films.  I give it a 3.9 out of 5.
