The question for
Director/Actor Denzel Washington’s Fences is “Why?” Why make a film about a narrow and disgusting
human being (Washington). who betrays his wife (Viola Davis) and bullies his
son (Jovan Adepo)? The only bright spot
is that he dies at the end.
The script by Playwright
August Wilson sounds like theater-speak instead of real life and, even though
there are some fines actors like Stephen Henderson and Russell Hornsby to liven
the action, everyone seems like they’re performing on stage.
Sorry to say, but, aside from Viola Davis, this was
a real disappointment. I give Fences
a 2.5 out of 5.
