Writer/Director Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace is a
charming, sad, beautiful, poignant father/daughter story that cannot help but
touch the heart of sensitive viewers.
Will (Ben Foster) is a Viet Nam vet suffering from PTSD,
who lives off-the-grid in an Oregon forest with his 13-year-old daughter Tom
(Thomasin McKenzie). They have a
wonderful relationship which is interrupted, when someone spots her and reports
it to the Forest Rangers.
Instead of leaving them alone, they are forced to live as
“normal folk,” which ends up disrupting their lives and relationship.
Granik and Co-Writer Anne Rosselini weave this tale with impactful
sensitivity. Cinematographer Michael
McDonough’s images perfectly add to the beauty of the tale.
I give Leave No Trace a 4.1 out of 5 and
urge you to see it.
