If you think you can’t sit through a film over 3 ½ hours
long, especially without a bathroom break, Director Martin Scorsese’s The
Irishman will prove you wrong.
Thanks to some of the best performances you’ll ever see on
screen, including those of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and even young
Lucy Gallina, plus the lyrical editing by the masterful Thelma Schoonmaker of
Scorsese’s development of Steven Zaillian’s epic screenplay, you’ll be swept
along by this story of the deadly fruits of hubris, greed and violence.
With
the story taking place over more than 40
years, you’ll also be amazed at the makeup and stylist skills of Michael
Marino, Michael Fontaine and Carla White, who used an astounding new process
that brings both youth and, then, old age to the cast almost as if they were some
form of animated beings.
From
Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s images to Production Designer Bob Shaw’s sets
to Composer Robbie Robertson’s lilting music, everything is perfection.
The Irishman is the ultimate in fascination and will
become a classic. I give it a 5 out of
5.
