Since I have a strong aversion to Nazis, it took me a few
scenes before I was able to get into the ironic spirit of Writer/Producer/Director Taika Waititi’s Jojo
Rabbit, despite the fact Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) is only a
10-year-old “fanatic.”
The youngster's problem is that he is possessed with a simpering Hitler
spirit (Taika Waititi), who imbues his mind with typical Nazi thinking…this
despite the fact his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is working against the regime.
The film really jumps into high gear, when his mother’s
secret is revealed…the fact she is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin
McKenzie) in their attic.
The story develops into a combination of fears and laughs
as the Nazi presence takes over the land and Jojo faces his inner-Hitler.
As was the case with last year’s Leave No Trace, Thomasin
McKenzie is the secret sauce of Jojo Rabbit. I give it a 4.1 out of 5.
