Director Steven Caple, Jr.’s Creed II is a fitting
conclusion (is it?) to the Rocky franchise.
Michael B. Jordan relives the role of Apollo Creed’s (Carl
Weathers) son Adonis. Becoming the
Heavyweight Champion of the World, he is challenged by the son (Florian
Muntaneau) of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), the fighter who killed his father in
the ring.
Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) does not want him to fight,
but Adonis feels he must. What happens
is the film’s story.
Despite the tough action, the film’s standout is Tessa
Thompson as Adonis’s wife.
If you’re a boxing fan, this movie is for you. If not, you might want to pass, especially if
you’re put off by blood-letting.
I give Creed II a 3.9 out of 5.
