Director Christian Rivers’ Mortal Engines echoes the
thrills the production team of Peter
Jackson, Fran Walsh, Phillippa Boyens, Deborah Forte, Amanda Walker and Zane
Weiner brought to the Lord of the Rings franchise, here blended
with the flavor of the Indiana Jones franchise, as well.
It, therefore, comes off as a bit dated, but in a
delightful way…a real “popcorn” movie.
Placed in a future where motorized “cities” travel across
the globe ravaging each other for food and fuel, Hugo Weaving’s “London”
attempts to become the dominant force. But, Hera Hilmar (Hester), Robert Sheehan (Tom) and Jihae
(Anna) team up to thwart his efforts, emerging as the next generation of action
stars.
The sets are magnificent creations and the action is
awesome fun. I give Mortal Engines a 4.1 out
of 5.
