Writer/Producer/Director/Cinematographer/Editor Alfonso Cuaron's Roma is
a haunting tale of a Mexican family in the throes of divorce with the central
character being their maid (Yalitza Aparicio).
What sets this film apart from the usual family drama is CuarĂ³n’s
classic black & white cinematography and his study of contrasts, which, at
its best, has birth balanced against a riot in which people are being killed. His magic is that here, even birth is
complicated with death.
Roma is a small story told in a big
way. I give it a 4.6 out of 5.
